Prime 9ja Online dey report say Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) don suspend Warri-Itakpe rail service after train derail on Thursday. Train dey travel from Itakpe in Kogi to Ujevwu in Delta when accident happen around 7.15pm.
Ediri Oyibo, digital strategist wey dey on board when accident happen, talk say train dey wobble along its track at different locations during journey. He say, "As person wey dey use train service often, riding on train from Ujevwu to Itakpe on Wednesday, 3rd of July 2024, I nearly die of fear when train wobble along its track at different locations; one, on top of valley crossing."
"Riding on train, something tell me say Warri-Itakpe train service na disaster waiting to happen. Derailment on top of valley crossing go spell doom."
"Passengers on trip report how train overshot station it was supposed to stop due to brake failure," he add.
Taribio Walson-Oweifawari, broadcast journalist wey also dey on train, say coach before hers almost fall off high point when train derail. She write on Facebook post, "My coach na VIP and it be Coach 1. Coach wey dey after ours na Coach 2 and e comot for track. Hai!!! I just dey shout Jesus when it look like ours go tumble. Just a little bit more, that coach go fall off high point, and take our coach with it."
On Friday morning, railway corporation announce suspension of train operations on route. NRC say, "Due to unexpected fault, train operations suspend for today. We apologise for inconvenience and appreciate your understanding."
Last year, NRC suspend operations on Warri-Itakpe rail service after train derail at kilometre 30, Ajaokuta-Itakpe section of track. In May, train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja derail in Jere.
