Na 2026 Dem Go Hold Cameroon Elections, Opposition De Cry

Prime 9ja Online de report say Cameroon President Paul Biya don get approval from lawmakers to shift legislative and local elections go 2026, and dat move de worry opposition parties say dem no go fit contest 2025 presidential election.

Lawmakers from Biya's party, Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), vote in favour of di bill, extending their term by one year till March 2026. Dis mean say legislative and municipal elections go hold after 2025 presidential poll.

Government say dem postpone di election to "reduce di number of elections", as dem initially plan four elections for next year, including regional council elections.

But opposition parties de cry say dis move go make dem unable to contest presidential election, as dem no get representation for National Assembly and Senate.

Maurice Kamto, Biya's main challenger in 2018, no get di required representation, as his party boycott di last municipal and legislative elections due to lack of electoral reforms.

Biya, 91, na one of Africa's longest-serving presidents, wey take office in 1982. His re-election in 2018 de marred by allegations of fraud by his opponents.

Di electoral code require say presidential candidate must be nominated by political party wey de represented for National Assembly, Senate, Regional or Municipal Council, or obtain recommendations from at least 300 personalities.

Dis development don spark concern among opposition parties, wey fear say di postponement go further entrench Biya's rule and limit their chances of contesting presidential election.
