Women Affairs Minister Wan Boost Women Economy With POS Machine

Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, wey be Minister of Women Affairs, don talk say dem dey try to distribute 37,000 Point of Sale (POS) machines to make financial transactions easy and boost women economic status.

Kennedy-Ohanenye, wey talk this one as she dey brief news people on Monday for Abuja, also talk say dem go provide N200 monthly health insurance, wey go reach N2,400 every year, for women.

She talk say this plan dey follow President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda with support from one microfinance bank, PLUG. “We dey go meet traditional and community leaders, lawmakers, governors, state ministries for women affairs and market leaders to distribute these things.

“Like that, the correct people wey fit manage the business, even for villages, go join wetin we dey do. “Also, any woman wey get this POS go get almost free health insurance, where you go just pay N200 every month, wey go reach N2,400 every year for health insurance wey the same microfinance bank, PLUG, go guarantee,’’ she talk.

The minister add say dem go also give 300 laptops to women for states and People with Disabilities (PWDs) as way to create job and boost women entrepreneurship. “We dey go ahead to give eight laptops for each state, wey go reach 300, including four for people wey get disability.

“The people wey go get am go learn IT and dem go give dem online jobs wey go pay in hard currency,” she talk. For the Pink Riders Initiative, the minister explain say the project go start for army barracks to make sure say the women dey safe before e go spread go other parts of the country.

“Dem suppose be women wey dey operate the tricycles to feed their house, take care of themselves and save money to buy another one, and also return small money to the ministry as e no be free, but dem subsidise am. “When dem save reach N500,000 to N600,000, the ministry go support them to get second one and make them fit pay their debt quick.

“We dey start them for army barracks make dem get security,” she talk. She add say the ministry, with the help of the army, don join hand for agriculture programmes, to provide security for farm wey go make sure say food plenty for ground at subsidised rates.

The minister, as she dey talk government commitment to protect the rights of women and children, add say dem don start mobile courts for quick prosecution of people wey do bad and justice for people wey survive. (NAN)
